What is the Wild Boar Challenge?
The Wild Boar Challenge is an off road, obstacle course run through the hills, creeks and man-made challenges at Wildwood Hills Ranch just outside of St. Charles, IA.
Who is behind the Wild Boar Challenge?
A local breakfast club that has been around for over 25 years, the Contributors Breakfast Club, has teamed up with the Wildwood Hills Ranch and Farrell’s Extreme Body Shaping to create the Wild Boar Challenge. The concept is to create a high quality, fun challenge run experience created by local Central Iowa people to support local charitable organizations.
Will I get wet / dirty / muddy?
Probably, yes and yes. The WBC course is being designed by the folks at Farrell’s Extreme Body Shaping so you can imagine it might present a bit of a challenge.
Who benefits from the proceeds of the Wild Boar Challenge?
The challenge is organized by the Contributors Breakfast Club, a Des Moines based group that has been raising money for Central Iowa charities for over 25 years. The primary beneficiary of the race proceeds is the Wildwood Hills Ranch. The remainder of the proceeds are committed to the CBC Foundation, a donor advised fund of the Greater Des Moines Community Foundation, that provides annual giving to a number of Central Iowa charitable organizations (primarily those devoted to helping children and young people who are disadvantaged). Some of the other charitable organizations supported by the CBC Foundation are; Freedom for Youth Ministries, the DM I Have a Dream Foundation, Youth Emergency Services Shelter, Fellowship for Christian Athletes and many more.
Do I have to sign a waiver and present an ID to pick up my packet?
Yes. Like all challenge races, the WBC has a very specific waiver that you’ll need to sign along with presenting a photo id to pick up your packet.
Do I have to pay for parking?
No. Unlike some other challenge races, we don’t charge to park your car. There should be ample parking available on site. Of course we encourage you to carpool with your friends and make a day of it!
What can I expect on race day?
Each participant will receive a cool Wild Boar Challenge Hi Tec t-shirt, a complimentary beverage of your choice (you must be 21 or over to enjoy a cold beer after), a challenging, fun run through the hilly Wildwood Hills Ranch and a fun party atmosphere afterwards. We’ll have lots of food and drink and entertainment following the race.
What about the obstacles?
The obstacles will definitely be a test of stamina and strength. There will be hay bales, water hazards, mud and barbed wire. You will be subjected to a light electric shock via an electric fence at the Pig Prod.
When should I arrive?
The race is scheduled to start at 9:30 am. We ask that all participants arrive by 8:30 am in order to get things started on time. We will have a limited packet pickup that morning starting at 8:00 am.
How do I get to the Wildwood Hills Ranch?
Wildwood is located 20 miles south of Des Moines - just 4.5 miles west of I-35 at the St. Charles exit on highway G50, or 1.5 miles south of Winterset on highway P71 and east 8 miles on highway G50.
Will race participants be sent out in waves?
Possibly. Depending on our numbers, we may send participants out in 5-10 minute waves. Since the race is chip timed at start and finish, it will make no difference on your race time.
